About
Leynará, FO
Føroya Sílaveiðifelag (1947), the local sportfishing association, is the only producer of wild salmon and seatrout smolt for sportfishing in Faroe Islands. Leynar river is running from the Leynarlake and the 2 smaler lakes called Mjáuvøtn. The lakes are one of two salmon running lakes in the Faroes, the other being Saksunarvatn. The fish ladders where constructed in the late sixties and early seventies to enable salmon and seatrout migration to the lakes. The fish counter was installed in 2023 and after adjustments again in july 2024, in order to assess the migration of hatchery salmon and seatrout smolt and return. We want to get as reliable estimate of migrating fish to compare to the fished numbers and of course to have reliable date in the planning of hatchery production.
